teen camp

I'm a camp nurse.

I'm here at my lovely camp for international teens. It's full of pine trees, sunshine, and happy campers.

Right now I'm sitting outside with coffee, watching chipmunks chase each other up a pine tree. I can see the pond. It's late wake-up this morning, so most people are still asleep. Not the music staff, they're practicing, so I'm treated to the sounds of multicultural rock and laughter.

The weather is perfect: comfortably cool with a breeze. Everything is green and there are flowers and little gardens everywhere. Looks like another exciting day. Can't wait to see what it brings.

Skype: Beijing

OK, that was amazing. I just Skyped with my sister in Beijing. My first Skype: China.

She arrived there yesterday with her husband and daughter. She'll be teaching 2cd grade.

They're staying in a dorm on a university campus while they look for an apartment.

Where are the jobs? China.

perfect summer day

July 6, 2011. It was a practically perfect summer day in Maine.

My houseguest left at 5:30 and I was sorry to have missed her. Sorry I forgot to offer you peaches & yoghurt! The dog heard her leave, and then I thought I heard the garbage truck so I jumped out of bed to get the trash out to the curb. Did that. Threw her sheets & towel into the wash and globbed in some detergent.

Since I was up so early, I decided to climb Mt David. First Fluff & I looked at the pond.

Then we climbed Mt David.

We walked around the pond. See the ducks?

See the whale?

Then I went to work for a couple of hours. Reconnected with my academic/corporate world and friends there. Brought a bunch of cilantro for Mike. The cilantro is so strong that when I cut it my eyes run, my nose goes nuts, and I feel dizzy. Checked on my Reiki program, all OK there. So I went to the beach to study for my national certification exam.

Studied and swam.
Came home and made broccoli. Storm rolled in and went from 91 and sunny to 65 in an hour. The clouds came over like a rumpled black blanket. Evened out to gray with bolts of fire, thunder, and rain that bounced off the roof. Windy too. I sat on my deck sipping chilled chardonnay until I was soaked.

Perfect summer day.
